CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS HAS SOLD 25 MILLIONS, MODERN WARFARE 2 AT 22 MILLIONS
Call of Duty is very much in the news today as Activision revealed new details on the XP event and also shared that Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders are "significantly" ahead of Black Ops. Along with its second quarter fiscal results, Activision today also revealed unit sales updates for the record-setting Call of Duty titles.
Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg said that Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops, the best selling game of all time (in terms of dollars, not units) had now reached 25 million units sold to date since shipping last November. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward isn't far behind, having sold 22 million units since its release in November 2009.
With Modern Warfare 3 already attracting more pre-orders than Black Ops did at the same time before launch, it's scary to think just how huge the next Call of Duty could be. And then, of course, on top of that Activision generates plenty of additional revenue through continued DLC.
