Today I’m proud to announce The Game Awards 2014, a new show that will be coming on December 5. After spending over two decades working in games media, this year I’m creating a new independent celebration for our industry.
Starting out on a new path is never easy, but I’m deeply humbled to have the entire game industry rally behind this new celebration. In the coming days and weeks there will be much more to tell you about what’s planned for December 5 at the AXIS Theater in Las Vegas, including information on the awards, the world premieres and much more.

More than ever our industry — the fans, the developers and the media — need to unite and show the world the power of games. I look forward to celebrating with you on December 5, whether you join us in person in Las Vegas or online.

THE GAME AWARDS 2014: L'EVENTO E' STATO UN SUCCESSO
Gli spettatori sono aumentati del 75% rispetto ai VGX 2013

Dopo che gli Spike VGX dell'anno scorso non si sono dimostrati il successo sperato, l'evento è stato completamente ripensato e modificato nei The Game Awards 2014. Questa decisione si è dimostrata un successo, almeno dal punto di vista del pubblico.
Come riportato da Polygon, la prima edizione dei The Game Awards ha attratto circa 1,93 milioni di spettatori con un incremento del 75% rispetto ai VGX 2013.

Il presentatore dell'evento, Geoff Keighley, è rimasto particolarmente sorpreso e soddistatto da questi dati: "Sono abituato ad avere molto supporto (team promozionale, PR ecc.). Tutto ciò che avevamo in questo caso era il supporto dei publisher e dei fan che hanno sparso la voce sui social media.
L'obiettivo di quest'anno era quello di guadagnare il rispetto del pubblico e di dimostrare che il modello di distribuzione open source può funzionare".
